Radio Frequency Identification (RFID)

RFID is an automatic identification method, relying on storing and remotely retrieving data using devices called RFID tags or transponders. An RFID tag is an object that can be attached to or incorporated into a product, animal, or person for the purpose of identification using radio waves. Chip-based RFID tags contain silicon chips and antennas. Passive tags require no internal power source, whereas active tags require a power source.

 

 

Raw materials

 

Crude or processed material that can be converted by manufacturing, processing, or combination into a new and useful product.


 

Reach truck

 

Stacking lift truck with outriggers where the load canbe repositioned by moving the mast or fork arm carriage.


 


Recycling

 

The process by which materials otherwise destined fordisposal are collected, processed, and remanufacturedinto new products.

 

 

Retailer

One who sells goods in small quantities at a time, not usually for resale.
 

 

Return on Assets (ROA)

An indicator of how profitable a company is relative to its total assets. ROA gives an idea as to how efficient management is at using its assets to generate earnings. Calculated by dividing a company's annual earnings by its total assets, ROA is displayed as a percentage. Sometimes this is referred to as "return on investment".
 

 

Reverse Logistics

A specialized segment of logistics focusing on the movement and management of products and resources after the sale and after delivery to the customer.
 

 

Roller conveyor

A conveyor consisting of a framework carrying rollers freely rotatable by the passage of loads on the conveyor.
 

 

Routing/Transport routing

The determination of the most efficient route(s) thatpeople, goods, materials and/or means of transporthave to follow inside or outside the Company.
 

 

Rush order

An order which for some reason must be fulfilled in lessthan normal lead time.
