PackagingMaterials and components used in any packaging operation to wrap, contain and protect articles or substancesduring transport.

PalletA horizontal platform, of minimum height compatible with handling by pallet trucks, and/or fork lift trucks and other appropriate handling equipment, used as a base for assembling, storing, handling and transporting goods and loads. It may be constructed with, or fitted with, a superstructure.

Pallet rackA skeleton framework, of fixed or adjustable design, to support a number of individual pallet loads.

ParetoA means of sorting data for example. For example, number of quality faults by

ParcelA classification of smaller shipments.

Physical distributionThose activities related to the flow of goods from theend of conversion to the customer.

Poka yokeJapanese term meaning mistake-proofing techniques, such as manufacturing or setup activity designed in a way to prevent an error from resulting in a productdefect.

Pull production
A method of production control in which downstream activities signal their needs to upstream activities. Pull production strives to eliminate overproduction and is one of the three major components of a complete just-in-time production system, along with takt time and continuous flow. |

Present valueToday's value of future cash flows, discounted at an appropriate rate.

|
Private-LabelProducts that are designed, produced, controlled by, and which carry the name of the store or a name owned by the store; also known as a store brand or dealer brand.

Process improvementDesigns or activities, which improve quality or reduce costs, often through the elimination of waste or non-value-added tasks.

|
|
ProcurementThe activities which ensure the availability of materialin the desired quality, quantity, place and time for therequesting unit.

Product mixThe combination of individual product types that makesup the total range.
|
|
|
Production planning and schedulingThe systems that enable creation of detailed optimized plans and schedules taking into account the resource, material, and dependency constraints to meet the deadlines.

ProductivityRelative measure of output per labour or machine hour.

|
|
Proof of Delivery (POD)Information supplied by the carrier containing the name of the person who signed for the shipment, the time and date of delivery, and other shipment delivery related information. |

Public warehouseA warehouse which is available to all companies and persons who wish to make use of the services offered.

Purchase Order (PO)Form buyer uses when placing order for merchandise.

Push systemSystem of ordering where orders are issued forcompletion by specified due dates, based on estimatedleadtimes.
